Craig Riches at Harvest Gold!

Hello from Harvest Gold!

We were so excited to welcome back Alabama artist Craig Riches to the gallery this summer. Craig is a longtime friend and featured artist here at Harvest Gold. If you have visited our gallery before you are sure to have seen his mesmerizing twirling wind sculptures in and around our store.

Craig immersed himself into the world of sculpting after needing a break from his music career over 15 years ago. He began working with copper, hammering and sculpting the material into kinetic shapes that take on a life of their own when combined with the gentlest of breezes. The response to his art was immediate, after only two weeks of sculpting he found himself being asked to display his art in three galleries. Since then his talents have evolved into a full time career and include work in wire, concrete, and water fountains.

There is something very philosophical in Craig's designs, and after spending just a little bit of time with him it becomes easy to see that his art reflects his personality. "The hardest thing for me, is to START something, but yet, after I do, the PATHWAY has always provided the many insights that have, over the years, shaped my fundamental view of the world. Ideals like quality and grace and balance, the ability to listen and feel, have all come in due course, as my path  has created an ever growing connection with the universe." Those ideals of quality, grace and balance are unarguably present in Craig's art, and we are honored to have him as a part of our gallery.

When Craig originally brought his designs to us at Harvest Gold Gallery, Lynda and Bill shared a common interest in the flow and movement of the shapes that create his sculptures. Their original earring designs have a similar structure, and although they don't spin in the wind, the earrings give off a feeling of movement much like Craig's sculptures. This similarity gave the three an instant connection, and many talks of technique and artistry laid the foundation for a longtime friendship.

This year Craig brought some stunning new creations that you will find adorning our front yard, as well as a new stock of the designs he has been creating for years. He also brought his lovely friend Cheryl who we were so happy to meet. This was Cheryl's first trip to the Northeast, and she seemed amazed with her surroundings here (minus the mosquitos). She graced us with her true southern charm, and we were happy to show her the beauty that is Kezar Lake and the White Mountains.

Harvest Gold Gallery Celebrates 18 years!

Christmas is special at Harvest Gold Gallery. It was eighteen years ago on the eve of Christmas eve when two of Santa’s elves (Bill Rudd and Lynda Rasco) moved north from Fryeburg to Lovell Maine and opened the Harvest Gold Gallery. They brought with them their hammers, mills, files, saws, vices, anvils, presses and all the tools it takes to design and create their beautiful and award winning jewelry. During the next six months preparations were made to turn the long-standing Severence Real-Estate store into the Harvest Gold Gallery.  They opened on their Sweet Sixteen wedding anniversary in May that spring.

Lynda and Bill had been creating unique, wearable gold and sterling jewelry for many years before moving to Lovell.   They traveled to the big wholesale shows in Philadelphia, Boston and many other cities.  Selling to jewelry stores and fine galleries around the country and abroad they were ready to meet the people who wore their jewelry and open a retail space.

Many of their pieces include Maine gemstones like tourmaline and amethyst mined right here in Oxford County.  Tourmaline is found in beautiful blues, greens and pinks.  Watermelon crystals are especially beautiful because they have both green and pink in the same gem.  The amethyst they use is from the famous Fourth of July find in Sweden, Maine a few years back.  They have become quite good at recycling old family gold and jewelry into new family heirlooms.  Changing the color and style of the old gold to reflect the new wearers own unique taste while keeping the sentimental quality of the piece.

Over the years they have expanded the other artists in the gallery to include over 200 American artists, most being within an hours drive.  Their mission from the very beginning was to specialize in America artists and crafts people.  Now the gallery includes glass blowers, watercolorists, fine wood workers, stainless steel sculptures, oil and acrylic painters and even a pigmented pulp artist from Berlin, NH.  The fine outdoor pieces that are as functional as they are useful.  Potters who aren’t afraid of color and size, and traditional fabric artists combine to dress up the dinner table.   The book section is filled with award winning children’s stories and classic Maine humor and stories of history and folklore for the adults.

Graystone Masonry Sculptures featured at Harvest Gold Gallery

Joseph Gray of Graystone Masonry Sculpture

Harvest Gold Gallery's newest outdoor sculpture artist has been working with stone for more than thirty years. As owner of Graystone Masonry Joseph Gray has traveled across the country and around the world to complete stonework and sculpture projects.  His personal highlights include inspiring work in the London gardens, on the French Riviera, and many incredible projects designed by Garr Campbell across the United States. The incredible art and architecture around the world opened Joe's eyes to what man can do with his mind and his hands and as a result he has expanded his stone work to include a passion for stone sculpture, a form which calms Joe's soul in times of stress and provides an outlet for his creativity.

"Romance in the Garden"

Joe has been commissioned for numerous sculptures and has designed, created and sold many more. He specializes in large outdoor sculpture, abstract and realism, stone fountains, garden sculpture, interior artwork, memorials and hand carved keystones. His incredible passion for stone and love of creating with it is evident in Joe's work.

"Chief Sabbatus"

Garden sculptures by Joe Gray at Harvest Gold Gallery include two larger-than-life granite pieces: the Native American profile "Sabattus" and an embracing couple titled "Romance in the Garden,"  an iron-ore life sized red-tailed hawk and a creative and functional granite eagle bench. These sculptures among many other artists' creations, may be seen at Harvest Gold Gallery.  Stop by when traveling through beautiful downtown Center Lovell, overlooking Kezar Lake and the White Mountains.

"I believe I will make an impact on the world with my stone sculpture. A smile and a warming of one's soul is my goal as a sculptor" -Joseph Gray
