Welcoming you to our Plein Air Event, Saturday August 1st

     

Harvest Gold Gallery would like to extend an open invitation to our annual Plein Air event.  Come see some of our favorite artists in action painting our beautiful scenic view of Kezar Lake and the White Mountains on Saturday August 1^st beginning at 10AM.  

En Plein Air is a French expression that translates to “in the open air”, and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors.  While studio painting creates a fixed and mostly pre-determined outcome, Plein Air painting reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. Here at Harvest Gold Gallery each new day looking at our majestic view is like looking at a new painting.  The colors of the mountains, clouds, and water are ever changing, providing an ideal backdrop not only for our gallery, but also for our Plein Air event.

This year among the very talented artists joining us will be Kristen Dill, Sandy Bell, Diane Scott, Varvara Harmon and our very own Thea Hart.  You don’t want to miss this event. Have you ever been to a Moose Lottery?

We are excited to be a part of the 2015 Moose Lottery in Bethel,  Maine! We will be joining lots of other vendors on Saturday June 13th from 9-5 at the Bethel Inn Conference Center.

We love Moose here at Harvest Gold Gallery. We haven't had any over to visit yet this year, but we have seen the tracks down by the lake and we did spot one on the bridge by the Marina a few months ago.  Here is a look at a few of our favorite Moose items from the gallery!

I personally have never been to a moose lottery, so I was a bit curious about the history of this event. Moose hunting was banned in Maine from 1935 until 1980 in an effort to restore the population.  There were 1,000 permits issued for the first lottery in 1980, and that number has now increased to 2,815. In 2011 it was determined that anyone who received a permit would have to wait three years before being eligible for another one. Residents pay $15, and have only one chance to receive a permit. Nonresidents are able to purchase 10 chances, but only 10% of the total permits are available to nonresidents. In 2014 the moose population was estimated at between 70,000 and 80,000. Hunters last year averaged a 65% success rate. This moose business is serious stuff, and I'm very excited to be a part of it with the gallery next weekend. Harvest Gold Gallery Celebrates 18 years!

Christmas is special at Harvest Gold Gallery. It was eighteen years ago on the eve of Christmas eve when two of Santa’s elves (Bill Rudd and Lynda Rasco) moved north from Fryeburg to Lovell Maine and opened the Harvest Gold Gallery. They brought with them their hammers, mills, files, saws, vices, anvils, presses and all the tools it takes to design and create their beautiful and award winning jewelry. During the next six months preparations were made to turn the long-standing Severence Real-Estate store into the Harvest Gold Gallery.  They opened on their Sweet Sixteen wedding anniversary in May that spring.

Lynda and Bill had been creating unique, wearable gold and sterling jewelry for many years before moving to Lovell.   They traveled to the big wholesale shows in Philadelphia, Boston and many other cities.  Selling to jewelry stores and fine galleries around the country and abroad they were ready to meet the people who wore their jewelry and open a retail space.

Many of their pieces include Maine gemstones like tourmaline and amethyst mined right here in Oxford County.  Tourmaline is found in beautiful blues, greens and pinks.  Watermelon crystals are especially beautiful because they have both green and pink in the same gem.  The amethyst they use is from the famous Fourth of July find in Sweden, Maine a few years back.  They have become quite good at recycling old family gold and jewelry into new family heirlooms.  Changing the color and style of the old gold to reflect the new wearers own unique taste while keeping the sentimental quality of the piece.

                                                                                                             Over the years they have expanded the other artists in the gallery to include over 200 American artists, most being within an hours drive.  Their mission from the very beginning was to specialize in America artists and crafts people.  Now the gallery includes glass blowers, watercolorists, fine wood workers, stainless steel sculptures, oil and acrylic painters and even a pigmented pulp artist from Berlin, NH.  The fine outdoor pieces that are as functional as they are useful.  Potters who aren’t afraid of color and size, and traditional fabric artists combine to dress up the dinner table.   The book section is filled with award winning children’s stories and classic Maine humor and stories of history and folklore for the adults.
