Gone Fishing

"Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after"
~Henry David Thoreau

Hello from Harvest Gold! While the gallery keeps us very busy in the summer, we still take some time for the important things in life, like fishing. Kezar Lake and its surrounding bodies of water offer some of the best fishing around, and it is our favorite way to get outside and enjoy the beautiful place in which we are so lucky to live.

Our love of fishing is clearly exhibited and reflected in several different mediums in our gallery. Take a look at just a few of the beautiful examples our artists have created.

"Trout on Board" by Tom Merriam (who is the king of fishing stories, by the way)
So next time you are wishin' you were fishin', pack up your rods and tackle boxes and head to Center Lovell. Stop by the gallery first and take a look for yourself at our amazing fish art. We can share some fishing stories (we have a few that you won't believe), and maybe we will even fill you in on our favorite secrets spots and techniques.

"If more people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles". We believe this with all our hearts.
Happy fishing from Harvest Gold!

Welcoming you to our Plein Air Event, Saturday August 1st

Harvest Gold Gallery would like to extend an open invitation to our annual Plein Air event.  Come see some of our favorite artists in action painting our beautiful scenic view of Kezar Lake and the White Mountains on Saturday August 1st beginning at 10AM.

En Plein Air is a French expression that translates to “in the open air”, and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors.  While studio painting creates a fixed and mostly pre-determined outcome, Plein Air painting reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. Here at Harvest Gold Gallery each new day looking at our majestic view is like looking at a new painting.  The colors of the mountains, clouds, and water are ever changing, providing an ideal backdrop not only for our gallery, but also for our Plein Air event.

This year among the very talented artists joining us will be Kristen Dill, Sandy Bell, Diane Scott, Varvara Harmon and our very own Thea Hart.  You don’t want to miss this event. See you at Harvest Gold Gallery on Route 5 in beautiful downtown Center Lovell beginning at 10AM on August 1st.  For more information or to participate as a painter please call the gallery at

Varvara Harmon comes to Harvest Gold Gallery to teach a Plein Air class

Varvara Harmon is a Russian artist who moved to Windham Maine in 2001.  She graduated from art school in Russia over 20 years ago and has been painting since she was a little girl. Her work is all made in different mediums and she creates it in a series of small paintings or drawings that are connected by a common subject or theme. We are proud to have an award winning Maine artist showcased here at Harvest Gold Gallery, and even more proud to have had her teach a Plein Air Class here at the Gallery.
Plein Air is a French expression which means "in the open air," and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, which is also called peinture sur le motif ("painting on the ground") in French.
This past saturday Varvara set up her easel and paints and got straight to work here at the gallery using our beautiful Center Lovell View.
The beginning of Varvara's Plein Air class, and the paintings are starting out great.
By noon Varvara has already accomplished so much. She is amazing to watch in action!
This photo is after 5 hours of dedicated painting.
This is the end result! It's absolutely beautiful! We are so proud to say that Varvara Harmon painted the view from Harvest Gold Gallery.
We just had to share Varvaras pallet and organization! Love these colors, they really express the shades of Maine in the summer.
Feel free to come and see more of Varvaras work and check out the view here at Harvest Gold Gallery in Center Lovell, Maine.
