Ice Fishing at Harvest Gold Gallery

Ice fishing is a favorite winter pastime here in Maine.  At Harvest Gold Gallery it can be experienced out back on frozen Kezar Lake or inside the warm showroom, through the beautiful oil paintings of Dean Mccrillis.  Deans' oil impressions present well defined subjects with  balanced composition.

Dean captures the technicalities perfectly, the auger, the tip-up, the bait bucket, the hole , the cooler, and the catch. The interplay of color and the way he develops the light in his work allows you to feel the chill in the air and the enthusiasm of ice fishing.

Dean said,"I didn't realize there was so much color in snow."   There are no less than ten different colors  in his snow.  He is an award winning art student at University of Southern Maine where he is a senior working on his BFA.

Many anglers build accommodations to shelter them from the elements.  The buildings are referred to as ice shacks and can be placed in communities or set where ever one likes as long as the ice is thick enough.  Ice fishing can be a social event while catching fish with family and friends.  Wonderful picnics are had with grilled foods, soups, salads and beverages.  All the while keeping an eye on the tip-ups' orange flag to indicate a catch.

The shanty can be as elaborate  as the builder desires.

Rope Tow Birthday Party- WHAT A DAY!

Enjoying this amazing day
February is birthday month at Harvest Gold Gallery.  Lynda has hers on the 2nd and Bill has his on the 9th.  It was a big one for Bill, at 60 he's still on top of the hill.
This year marked our third Harvest Gold rope tow, sledding, ski and snowboard party. Thank Billy Lacasse for the portable rope tow.  It was also a celebration of his grandsons' birthday, Charlie was 2 on the 7th, and another friend Patty Howard   is also on the 2nd, she over 2 and still climbing the hill.
The rope tow was running at 11 am and the food table was being stocked for the onslaught of 75 winter enthusiastic nordicers.  Hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, buffalo chicken wings, ziti casserole, Chinese stir fry, drumsticks, chips, cheese, salads, chili, chicken noodle soup, fruit tray, leek and goat cheese tart, hot cider and rum, wine and beer set the savory table. On the other side was a desert table set for a king and queen. Chocolate gateau, key lime pie, brownies, raspberry blueberry pie, chocolate chip cookies, breads, butterscotch cake, a sweet tooth's heaven.

There was the cake walk.
This cake is no longer available, Its the famous disappearing chocolate gateau.

Susan did the most runs!
Dianna and Alison enjoying the fun.
Captain was getting ready for a tube ride!

A wonderful community we live in!
Thank you all who made our birthdays great!

Amethyst

Here at Harvest Gold Gallery we feature Maine amethyst jewelry. The gemstone is mined in western Maine near our gallery. Amethyst is the February birthstone. It is beautiful purple color and is one of featured jewelry designs.

CRYSTAL MEANINGS LORE OF AMETHYST

Keywords:  Psychic, Sobriety
Amethyst is a meditative and calming stone which works in the emotional, spiritual, and physical planes to provide calm, balance, patience, and peace.
Amethyst is used as beneficial when dealing with legal problems and money issues, which can lead to prosperity and abundance, though it is not the best known prosperity stone.
In the psychic and spiritual realms, amethyst is an excellent all-purpose stone that can increase spirituality and enhance intuition and psychic powers of all kinds. It does this by making a clear connection between the earth plane and other planes and worlds. Amethyst is also excellent for meditation and lucid dreaming. It is used to open one's channels to telepathy, past life regression, clairaudience, clairvoyance, and communication with angels. Amethyst also protects against psychic attacks, especially during spiritual work.

Amethyst is not only a psychic protection stone, but is also used to protect one from thieves, and to protects travelers.
Emotionally, amethyst is used in crystal healing  to help heal personal losses and grief, bringing one gently past. Amethyst has a gently sedative energy that can promote peacefulness, happiness, and contentment. It also is said to bring emotional stability and inner strength. This stability and strength not only helps one hold firm in one's life, but it can enhance flexibility and cooperation. To be flexible at need is a sure sign of strength.
Amethyst is very well known -- as from the ancients -- as a sobriety stone. It has been used for millenia to prevent drunkenness, and is used to assist in getting rid of addictions to alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc, and destructive compulsive behaviors of all kinds.

Physically amethyst is said by spiritual healers and mystical lore to heal the withdrawal symptoms of any sort of addiction, help with headaches, insomnia, arthritis, diabetes, pain relief, circulatory system issues, endocrine system problems, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, immune system deficiencies, asthma, phobias, pregnancy and preventing miscarriage, menopause, PMS, and general healing.
Note that healing crystal meanings are spiritual supports to healing and are not prescriptions or healthcare information.
Amethyst is associated with the third eye and crown chakras primarily, but can also open the heart chakra. It is also associted with both air and water elements.
As a variety of quartz, amethyst has the energies inherent in quartz, as well as its own unique vibration.

Harvest Gold Gallery Celebrates 18 years!

Christmas is special at Harvest Gold Gallery. It was eighteen years ago on the eve of Christmas eve when two of Santa’s elves (Bill Rudd and Lynda Rasco) moved north from Fryeburg to Lovell Maine and opened the Harvest Gold Gallery. They brought with them their hammers, mills, files, saws, vices, anvils, presses and all the tools it takes to design and create their beautiful and award winning jewelry. During the next six months preparations were made to turn the long-standing Severence Real-Estate store into the Harvest Gold Gallery.  They opened on their Sweet Sixteen wedding anniversary in May that spring.

Lynda and Bill had been creating unique, wearable gold and sterling jewelry for many years before moving to Lovell.   They traveled to the big wholesale shows in Philadelphia, Boston and many other cities.  Selling to jewelry stores and fine galleries around the country and abroad they were ready to meet the people who wore their jewelry and open a retail space.

Many of their pieces include Maine gemstones like tourmaline and amethyst mined right here in Oxford County.  Tourmaline is found in beautiful blues, greens and pinks.  Watermelon crystals are especially beautiful because they have both green and pink in the same gem.  The amethyst they use is from the famous Fourth of July find in Sweden, Maine a few years back.  They have become quite good at recycling old family gold and jewelry into new family heirlooms.  Changing the color and style of the old gold to reflect the new wearers own unique taste while keeping the sentimental quality of the piece.

Over the years they have expanded the other artists in the gallery to include over 200 American artists, most being within an hours drive.  Their mission from the very beginning was to specialize in America artists and crafts people.  Now the gallery includes glass blowers, watercolorists, fine wood workers, stainless steel sculptures, oil and acrylic painters and even a pigmented pulp artist from Berlin, NH.  The fine outdoor pieces that are as functional as they are useful.  Potters who aren’t afraid of color and size, and traditional fabric artists combine to dress up the dinner table.   The book section is filled with award winning children’s stories and classic Maine humor and stories of history and folklore for the adults.
