Ann Sklar, local Maine artist has new work in Harvest Gold Gallery! This abstract painter has had her works shown in over fifteen exhibitions, has art in Galleries from Maine to Florida, and has experience in many different fields of the arts. After studying at Arcadia University, Temple University, and Pennsylvania State University, Ann went on to be completely involved in Galleries, as co-founder, co-owner, design and development, member and partner of over four Galleries.

Ann is newly becoming recognized in the larger Artist community. Doing consignment pieces, she finds inspiration from not only the world around her, but the pictures in her mind, she speaks of it, “After many years of painting close up, realistic images I now think that my best paintings are the unplanned ones.   They emerge by some kind of instinctive feeling and are often nonobjective.  I play with the colors and forms until they work together, often applying layer after layer of paint.  When completed they can be quiet landscapes, still lives, or simply shapes and forms.”

Beautiful Varvara Harmon in the Gallery!

Varvara Harmon, internationally acclaimed still life Artist is a highlight to Harvest Gold Gallery of Center Lovell, Maine. Harmon was born and raised in Volzshk, Russia, where she began her studies as an artist at the Volzshk Art School, graduating with a Diploma in Art Studies. Shortly after graduation she turned her attention to earth sciences, and studied at Moscow Geological Exploration Academy, where at she earned a Degree in Geological Studies.

While working as a geologist and having the opportunity to see some of Russia’s most spectacular wildlife, she returned to painting landscapes, and participated in many regional art exhibitions. She also had the honor of being the first artist to ever put on a solo exhibition at the Museum of V. E. Lenin in the city of Kazan, Russia.

In 2001 Varvara immigrated to the United States, to Maine. In Maine she found new inspiration for her landscapes and still life’s. “New England, especially Maine, is a place whose lands, inland waters, coast and people have inspired many of her recent paintings.”

The Majority of Harmon’s works are done in oil, however she also works with acrylic, watercolors, and pencil. Although landscapes are her favorite subject, she also does still life paintings, portraits, and accepts commissioned work.

Since beginning her career back in Volzshk, Varvara has been accepted into more than 6 memberships; International Guild of Realism, Oil Painters of America, Landscape Artists International, Maine Women in the Art, Union of Maine Visual Arts, Paint America, Fine Arts America. These memberships define her as one of the finest Artists of our time.

Varvara has won over 15 awards for her work, starting in 2002, and has been awarded an estimated three awards yearly.

It is an honor and a pleasure to show her work in Harvest Gold Gallery, especially her Roses on Silk painting, “This painting has been chosen as the finalist in the American Artist magazine’s Cover Competition 2009 and published in June issue of American Artist Magazine also it was finalist for "Salon International 2009", a Juried Exhibition of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art.”

            Terri Brooks, a New England Native, has new art in Harvest Gold Gallery!

Brooks studied at University of Maine, majoring in sculpture, but quickly turned to watercolors as a more suitable medium for her bright composure and passion for color. Ms. Brooks then went on to have a 30-year career teaching Art in public schools of New Hampshire. Her drive and excellence gave her the ability to start showing in national exhibits in 2001, and since that time her art has been shown in over thirty national juried art exhibits! She has received numerous awards for her work, which is cited as “soft, glowing light and the use of color granulation” 

            Brooks talks about her work, “My work is about the effects that light and atmosphere have on people and places.   I am a keen observer of the world around me. With camera or sketchbook in hand, I seek to provide myself with the visual information necessary to work from back in the studio. The summer haze, early morning mist, crisp wintery light, etc. all has a unique effect on the subject and I strive to capture that in my painting. The beautiful Mt. Washington Valley Region of New Hampshire that I live in provides me with inspiration to paint just as it has inspired many artists before me.”

The Lovell Brookside Weaver

Local Lovell artist, Kathleen Moulton, the Lovell Brookside Weaver has recently begun her journey into the world of art. Finding inspiration in the colors of fabric, she is able to turn rags into riches, by weaving “Rag-Rugs.” Kathleen uses all recycled materials, shopping at thrift stores for bright and beautiful colors of fabric to weave into rugs that will brighten any room.

Kathleen became inspired when she happened upon an old loom in an antique barn, it was broken down and dusty, but because of her creative initiative she saw life left in this loom. Thus, she transformed the antique into the “Regal-Rag” maker she calls Lydia.  Her newest loom, Rosemary, she found at a clockmakers shop, she imagined the history of the loom, and all the memories made by it’s previous owners, so she named it Rosemary, which holds the meaning of remembrance, and makes “Remembrance Rugs.” 

Here at Harvest Gold Gallery we are proud to display many of Kathleen’s beautiful creations. The cheerful rugs serve not only as a functional beautiful rug, but also as a conversation piece, and an inspiration to renew what is old. Just as her rugs, Kathleen is a bright and beautiful woman, and puts love into each rug, hoping to bring joy to the home of the buyer.

Thanks for a wonderful book signing with Robin Taylor Chiarello!

            Robin Taylor-Chiarello, mother, grandmother, primary school teacher and acclaimed children books author, is the phenomenal writer of The Blue Lobster, a tale about the strife for acceptance.  The Blue Lobster highlights the struggle that those who are unique, especially by birth, face in a closed society. Inspired to write this book by the loss of her own son, who was born blue because of a heart defect, and from hearing on the radio the findings of a “one in a million” blue lobster catch on the United States coastline, she created this unique children’s book that can be enjoyed by all because of its moral and understanding.  This tale teaches that acceptance is the only way, because one day, the one who is different may become a star.

            The Blue Lobster certainly did become a star as Robin released a second book called The Blue Lobster’s Holiday! in which diversity and love is shown loud and proud. Robin is an advocate for multi-cultural children’s environments, and about loving no matter how different a being might be. She brings forth those morals in this diverse tale of celebration and giving, acceptance and the spirit of the holidays. The story’s undersea life celebrates all cultures and religion, from Hanukah to Christmas, and blessings for all!

The Blue Lobster Wins! Los Angeles Book Festival Honorable Mention, San Francisco Book Awards First Place, Boston Book Festival Honorable Mention, Silver Mom’s Choice Award, and Paris France Winner Children’s Division. 

           

            This past Friday we had the pleasure of meeting the author, reading the Blue Lobster Series, and taking home a signed copy from Harvest Gold Gallery. We enjoyed wine and cheese and small hors d'oeuvres from Bill rockin' in the kitchen.  We enjoyed conversation with each other and the opportunity to talk with Robin, about her career, inspiration, and love for diversity and acceptance. Wow, what a wonderful Friday evening for an

 Artist Reception and Open House!

Here in little ol' Lovell Maine, overlooking Kezar Lake, over 30 Artists came to celebrate their art and enjoy the company of many locals and those who traveled from away for this event. 

Wine and Hors d'oeuvres were served up from the kitchen, 

Bill Rudd style! 

The atmosphere was upbeat and enjoyable as each customer browsed the Gallery, in hopes of taking home a new treasure, be it a Maine Tourmaline Necklace handmade by Lynda Rasco, or an Impressionist's Delight by Carol Novotne.

There were more treasures to be found outside in the garden, 

where chimes sang and the sun warmed the dragonfly benches, the butterfly sculptures looked ready to take flight!

Through all the joy and admiration, the night was one to remember. Each person left happily, some with gift in hand, others with a memory to serve them of their visit to Harvest Gold Gallery, all, with a happy heart, a satisfied taste for the fine arts and the sunset to their back.
